Famous Nigerian songstress Temilade Openiyi also known as Tems has shared her reason for wearing the ‘view-blocking’ dress to the 2023 Oscars.
Tems has been trending on social media after pictures of her extravagant outfit to the 65th Academy Awards went viral on the internet.

The singer adorned herself in a white Lever Couture gown with cool tulle fabric beautifully designed into a head-to-toe asymmetrical style. She spiced up the outfit with silver gemstone heels and jewelry on her wrists and fingers. Although beautifully dressed, Tem’s outfit took a different turn as she entered the venue. Her outfit reportedly caused discomfort for the audience seated behind her as they strained to see the stage.

Tems received backlash for this reason, with many people calling her fashion choice “inconsiderate”.Following the social media buzz that trailed her outfit, the Grammy-winning singer gave her reaction. She spoke with Harper’s Bazzar, in a pre-Oscars interview concerning her choice of oufit. According to her, she decided to ‘go all out’ and ‘make the most’ of her first Oscars experience.
In her words,
“Two years ago, I would’ve said no to this dress. But it’s my first Oscars-I am going to go all out. I really wanted to make the most of the day. The dress is also my way of celebrating my work and the people around me, celebrating my country, and celebrating the people that are rooting for me. This dress says ‘Yes, yes, I am here!”
