“We’ll go with whatever”: One Piece Writer has 1 Thing in Mind so as to Introduce Tony Tony Chopper in Season 2

Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece has been out for about five weeks now, and just two weeks after its release on August 31st, the series’ officials confirmed that a second season is in the works.

This live-action series, based on the popular anime and manga, follows the adventures of the friendly pirate Monkey D. Luffy, played by Iñaki Godoy, as he embarks on a quest to find the legendary One Piece treasure, which was hidden by a former Pirate King, Gol D. Roger.

In the first season, Luffy makes both friends and enemies and assembles a crew consisting of four members: swordsman Roronoa Zoro, navigator Nami, kickboxing chef Sanji, and sharpshooter Usopp.

Matt Owens Discusses Challenges and Considerations for Introducing Chopper

During a recent Reddit Q&A (via ComicBook), the showrunner of Netflix’s One Piece, Matt Owens, mentioned they’re figuring out how to make Chopper come alive, and their top priority is considering what’s most important:

“We’re exploring a lot of options for how to do Chopper. The most important thing is getting him right. We’ll go with whatever avenue that allows us to do our emergency food justice.”

Owens talked about the difficulties and emphasized the importance of getting it right. He jokingly mentioned they’d use any method that let the Strawhats and the audience “do emergency food justice.”

However, if the second season of One Piece follows the original story, we can expect to see places like Loguetown, Drum Island, and Alabasta, as well as characters like Chopper, Dr. Kureha, Crocodile, and Nico Robin. There’s hope that Jamie Lee Curtis might join the cast as Dr. Kureha, which could bring added star power to the second season.
