Reigning Wimbledon champion and defending champion at the 2023 US Open, Carlos Alcaraz was left stranded in an awkward situation as he went out for the post-match press conference after his first-round win. As Alcaraz attended the post-match press conference, he was left waiting for questions while journalists kept quiet before the moderator intervened and asked them not to be shy.
Carlos, meanwhile, was left puzzled at the situation. The Spaniard just looked around the room in the hope of seeing someone raise their hand to ask a question. However, Alcaraz could see no one. After the moderator intervened, the 20-year-old burst into laughter.
“Don’t be shy, anybody. Don’t be shy. You’re here. Carlos is there. You have to ask a question,” said the moderator, prompting a burst of laughter from the tennis ace. Finally, one of the journalists asked a question and Alcaraz had a sigh of relief.

Carlos Alcaraz cruises into second round of 2023 US Open
While Carlos Alcaraz had an awkward encounter off the court, he had no issues on it during his first-round match. The Spaniard comfortably cruised into the second round of the tournament as his opponent Dominik Koepfer retired in the second set. The German injured his ankle in the first set which Alcaraz won 6-3.
Koepfer showed some resistance and won two games in the second set but as he still trailed 2-3, the German decided to shake hands. Alcaraz called the injury unfortunate but was satisfied with his game. The Spaniard hoped to maintain the same intensity in his second round where he will face South Africa’s Lloyd Harris.
“It was a shame for him in the first game, he got injured with the ankle,” Alcaraz said post-match (via US Open). “Obviously that’s not the best way to get through to another round. But I have to say for myself that I was playing great, I was playing really well on court. Hopefully, I can keep the same level in the next round.”
