A dance group from Uganda, Ghetto Kids, made history on Saturday, April 15, 2023, during the 16th season of Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) show after they secured a golden buzzer before the end of their performance.
The ‘Ghetto Kids‘, who are aged 5 to 13, performed energetic dances to different songs to the delight of the crowd and judges, so much so that Italian judge Bruno Tonioli, couldn’t wait until the end of their audition before hitting the golden buzzer, which has never happened before.

The kids have become the first act in the talent show’s history to ever receive a golden buzzer midway.
“That’s actually never happened. Normally the golden buzzer is pressed afterwards. He (Tonioli) gave you the golden buzzer and you performed with the confetti. It was magical,” said Judge Simon Cowell, whose sentiments were also echoed by Judges Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon.

The golden buzzer is pressed by a judge or host when they decide they want a particular audition to go straight through to the live shows. It grants one an automatic place in the live rounds (Semi-Finals), skipping past the boot camp stage of the competition.
Ghetto Kids, a team of 30 children, are sheltered in an orphanage in Kampala, Uganda. The orphanage director Kavuma Dauda said that he aims to “make their lives better, using music, dance, and drama.”
“Ghetto kids is all about making their lives better through paying their school fees, feeding them, [paying] hospital bills, all the basic needs that a child wants,” he said in a montage played before the kids’ performance.
