Sisters Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim write music together, perform together, record together, and headline sold-out worldwide tours together. Now, though, all three members of pop-rock group Haim are self-isolating in their respective homes and adjusting to this new normal. “Other than when Este was an only child for three years, this is by far the longest we’ve ever gone without being together,” says Danielle.
Another change: They were set to release their third album, Women in Music Pt. III, this April but moved the release to June 26 after…well, you know. Nevertheless, the sisters are still dropping new music—and their latest single, “I Know Alone,” seems eerily apropos for the current shelter-in-place status. “We wrote the song a year and a half ago, and it was always supposed to be the next song that we released,” explains Danielle. Says Este, “The timing lined up.”

When Women in Music Pt. III is finally released, the sisters promise it will provide some much-needed positive vibes. “We were inspired by everyday things and tried not to overthink anything,” says Alana. “We’re speaking to a lot of deep emotions, but when it came down to record them, we kept it spontaneous and fun. I hope that comes out in the album.”
While we wait for Women in Music Pt. III, we asked the sisters to share their faves—everything they’re cooking, buying, reading, watching, and more.
A fave dish to cook at home
Alana Haim: I literally can’t cook. It’s a problem. But Passover has just happened, so Danielle has been making a lot of matzo ball soup—she’s perfected the ball.
Danielle Haim: It’s the ultimate comfort food. I use my mom’s recipe. The secret is the club soda in the matzo ball mixture.
