The Big Bang Theory Pays Tribute to Mrs. Wolowitz's Carol Ann Susi

Amy and Sheldon didn't utter "I love you"s again, but it wouldn't have been true to the characters to do so. On the other hand, they were the most emotionally affectionate last night than all season. Whether it was playing the name game in the cold open or Amy trying unsuccessfully to take Sheldon's mind off of Leonard's surgery, it was nice to finally see these two truly connected.

Then there was Howard and Bernadette, who up until last night had been irritating the hell out of me. This time, thanks to Raj's parents splitting up, the two were forced to take a hard look at themselves, which wasn't so pretty. Didn't matter, as it was hilarious without being ridiculous, and the love shone through.

Howard: "Can you imagine being married to someone for 40 years?!"

Bernadette: "Not anymore!"

By the way, the revelation that Howard and Raj once went to couples therapy together? Amazing.

Then there was Penny and Amy taking care of their guys after Sheldon ran into the operating room door and broke his nose. Having both Leonard and Sheldon recover together while the girls made jokes at their expense was pure genius without being gimmicky.

Heartfelt, sweet, and hilarious—just like Carol Ann Susi.

On a side note, last year I interviewed the cast and producers about Mrs. Wolowitz, and here's what they had to say:
