Nornir Chests can be found throughout the different areas you explore in God of War Ragnarok, each one offering a unique puzzle challenge for you to complete for a great reward.
While you’re exploring the Temple of Light in the Groa’s Secret main Path quest, you’ll come across a Nornir Chest toward the end of the level. Read on to learn how to solve this puzzle quickly so you can get back to the narrative at play.
How To Reach Temple Of Light’s Nornir Chest
As you navigate the Temple of Light, you will eventually reach a platform facing the Light of Alfheim, as pictured in the image above. Throughout the level, you will be circling in and around the Light of Alfheim; the Nornir Chest is located particularly close to the Light itself. You’ll recognize the familiar chest off to the right when facing the Light of Alfheim.
What Are Nornir Chests
Nornir Chests are magically sealed chests you will come across during your adventures throughout the nine realms in God of War Ragnarok. You’ll recognize these Nornir Chests by their signature blue runes emblazoned across the face of the chest. These chests come with a puzzle revolving around these three blue runes. You must find them in the immediate surroundings, and destroy or otherwise interact with them in a specific way in order to unlock the chest and gain the rewards within.
Idunn Apples: collecting his green apple reward will increase your maximum Health, allowing you to survive just a little bit longer in particularly challenging combat encounters.
Horns of Blood Mead: collecting this drinking horn reward will increase your maximum Rage, allowing your Rage to last longer in combat.
Each Nornir Chest comes with its own puzzle; this one involves the ringing of three runic bells by throwing your Leviathan Axe. Unlike other Nornir Chest puzzles, this one is timed and must be completed quickly and efficiently. Simply running to each bell is insufficient; there’s a specific way to accomplish this, and it involves the reflective purple stones found throughout the Temple of Light. For the purposes of this Nornir Chest, you’ll want to work right to left (left to right also works, but for the purposes of this guide, right to left makes the most sense).
First Runic Bell
While facing the Nornir Chest, you’ll spot a passage running down past the right side of the chest. Head down the short flight of stairs. When you come to the first alcove, turn right. You’ll just barely make out the familiar blue rune on a bell, but it’s hidden behind a green-glowing metal plate. Have Atreus shoot a Sonic Arrow at the green metal plate, removing it so you can hit the runic bell unimpeded.
While you’re down here, you’ll notice the purple reflective stone just beside it. This will allow you to throw your Leviathan Axe at it, which will reflect it to strike the runic bell, from the top of the stairs by the Nornir Chest. You’ll need to strike it from this distance, since the small time window does not allow you to run down this passage to throw your axe at the runic bell directly in the time allowed.
So, from the top of the stairs by the Nornir Chest, throw your Leviathan Axe at the purple reflective stone, which will reflect the Leviathan Axe into the first runic bell.
Second Runic Bell
The second runic bell is located just above and to the left of the Nornir Chest. After ringing the first runic bell down the passage, recall your Leviathan Axe and throw it again at this second runic bell.
Third Runic Bell
The third runic bell is further back and to the left from the second one, up on a ledge above the path leading further into the level. You’ll need to recall the Leviathan Axe back to you, take a few steps to the left if the bell isn’t in view yet, and throw your Leviathan Axe again, ringing the third bell. All three bells need to be rung in quick succession, as the time window for unlocking the chest is very short. If you miss one of your throws, you will likely need to wait for the runic bells to reset and try again.
With precision -- and some patience -- you will ring the three runic bells in no time.
Once the Nornir Chest is unlocked, open it to receive your Idunn Apple reward. As stated above, this will contribute toward increasing Kratos’ maximum Health.
