Storm Knocks out Power for Thousands of San Diegans – NBC 7 San Diego

As many as 14,000 San Diego Gas & Electric customers in Coronado and other communities in San Diego County lost power Monday, but electricity was slowly being restored throughout the day.

As of 6 p.m. Monday, an estimated 1,750 customers in seven communities -- including Bonita, Carlsbad, Oceanside and Ramona --  were without power. Restoration times varied, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Bonita had the largest number of customers affected, at 1,213. According to SDG&E's outage map, equipment was cited as the cause.

Some 8,825 customers in Coronado were affected as of about midday Monday, but a short time later, the police department reported that most residents had power restored by early afternoon.

Other communities hit by outages were Encinitas, Fallbrook, La Mesa, Mission Beach and Sorrento Valley.

High winds and downed trees and branches are likely the culprits to blame for the outages. At least one outage in Pacific Beach near Ingraham Street and Fortuna Avenue affecting a few hundred customers was due to a large fallen tree. Some people had been without power since Sunday evening with restoration times of Monday night.

This tree was uprooted in the storm. City crews are working to get rid of it and 2100 residents lost power in this Pacific Beach area overnight. Downed tree is at Fortuna & Promontory. How’re things looking where you are? ⁦@nbcsandiego
