ROCK HILL, S.C. — Smokers in Rock Hill will no longer be able to light up in public parks, according to Channel 9's partners at The Herald.
The city council approved in a 4-2 vote the second reading of a bill Monday night that bans cigarettes and electronic cigarettes in all city-owned parks. There was no discussion before the vote.
The first reading of the bill two weeks earlier also passed with a 4-3 vote. Council members then debated the merits of public health and individual liberty.
Parks, Recreation and Tourism employees will enforce the rule by asking smokers to stop or leave the park.
This is just the city's latest step to regulate smoking.
In 2009, the city also prohibited smoking in schools, businesses and on city property. Smoking is banned in city-owned vehicles as well.
