Selah Marley Explains Feeling “Robbed Of A Grandfather” Ahead Of Bob Marley Biopic

Selah Marley is not one to hold her tongue. However, when her words get taken out of context, she will defend herself.

Earlier today (Jan. 30), the 25-year-old took to Instagram, sharing, “Unrelated, but all this Bob Marley movie promo really just keeps reminding me of the fact that I was robbed of a grandfather.”

Some people took that as her alluding to the idea that her family wasn’t involved in the forthcoming biopic, Bob Marley: One Love, and it didn’t take long for Selah to clear the air.

“Y’all are dragging it lmfao,” she wrote. “Never said my family wasn’t a part of the movie. Never said I didn’t like it. Never said…any of those things.”

Selah continued, “I simply stated that [the film] is a stark reminder of the fact that my grandfather passed when my father [Rohan Marley] was only nine years old. That can be a saddening thing to remember at times.” Bob Marley died in May 1981 at age 36 after battling a rare form of skin cancer.

She noted that that sadness she was referring to isn’t “debilitating or even a sadness that requires pity,” but is more of a “humanizing sadness.” The STAR POWER singer also reminded the masses that Bob Marley may be a sensationalized superstar to the public, but for her, he was “the patriarch of [her] family.”

“I’ve been further guided into that reflection with the promotion of his upcoming film, which I do hope you guys go see!! What an amazing man he is,” Selah concluded.

Bob Marley: One Love stars Kingsley Ben-Adir as the famed reggae musician. Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, the film will celebrate his impactful life and revolutionary music, as well as detail his story of overcoming adversity.

It was created in partnership with the Marley family and will be in theaters on Valentine’s Day.
