One day after Alejandra Amarilla gave birth to their first child, Steve Nash, his spouse of five years, startled the NBA world by filing for divorce. The current head coach of the Nets did, in fact, learn that the child was not his, but rather the baby of Jason Richardson, his former Suns teammate.
When he separated with filmmaker Alejandra Amarilla, Steve Nash had to fight for custody of his three children, one of whom was a baby. Nash’s personal life was a nightmare ten years ago, but now he is coaching the Brooklyn Nets, residing in New York, and contently remarried to former U.S. team volleyball star Lilla Frederick with whom he shares a precious three-year-old boy, Luca, and a newborn daughter. In addition to announcing the birth of his third kid with Amarilla in 2010, Nash also made it known that the couple had been splitting and had been separated for the majority of the pregnancy. But the reason behind their split is nothing but a full fledged controversy.
Steve Nash and his NBA eccentricity
After being selected by Phoenix with the 15th overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft, Steve Nash played 18 NBA seasons with the Suns, Dallas Mavericks, and Los Angeles Lakers. Nash became the first Canadian and the 10th player in NBA history to earn league MVP honours with the Suns in both of his first two seasons. In addition to being an eight-time NBA All-Star, Nash was a member of the All-NBA First Team three times. After five seasons as the NBA’s leading assist per game leader, Nash finished his career third all-time with 10,335 assists. Over the span of more than 1,200 regular-season games, Nash averaged 14 points, 8.5 assists, and 3 rebounds per outing.
Before entering the NBA, Nash attended Santa Clara University, where he twice earned the West Coast Conference Player of the Year title. In one of the biggest upsets in NCAA Tournament history, Nash and the 15th-seeded Santa Clara overcame the No. 2 seeded Arizona Wildcats. One of Canada’s most outstanding athletes, Nash, was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame’s 2020–21 class and won the title of Canadian Male Athlete of the Year three times in a row starting in 2005. In 2022, Nash was selected for the NBA’s 75th anniversary team, and in 2018, he was enshrined as the fifth Canadian to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
The ugly truth behind Nash’s divorce
Five days after the birth of their third kid in 2011, Steve Nash divorced Alejandra Amarilla because the infant was of mixed race although Nash was white. Another illustration of how events like this impact the team is that t he teammate suspected of having relations with Nash’s wife was Jason Richardson. When Richardson was traded to Orlando, Nash released a statement in which he said that it was a bittersweet occasion for him and his wife because they were in the process of divorcing. The Suns had to let Richardson go because it created a significant disruption in the dressing room.

While playing for the Dallas Mavericks in 2001, the Canadian basketball player Steve Nash met Alejandra Amarilla, a filmmaker from Paraguay, in Manhattan. After three years of dating, the couple had twin daughters Lola and Bella. The pair was married in June 2005, one year later, and appeared to be having a happily ever after. Prior to the announcement of their third pregnancy, Steve was back in Arizona playing for the Phoenix Suns, and it seemed like nothing could make them happier.
