BERNE - Police say a gunman was injured by shots that were fired inside a drug store in a small town in northeastern Indiana after an off-duty officer intervened.
The shooting happened Sunday afternoon at a CVS store in the Adams County town of Berne. Police Chief Tim Taylor says the wounded man was hospitalized in stable condition.
Taylor tells WANE-TV and WPTA-TV that the off-duty officer responded to the store on a report of an attempted armed robbery.
The shots were fired in the store's pharmacy counter, but details about the circumstances weren't immediately released.
No injuries were reported to customers or employees of the store in the town about 30 miles south of Fort Wayne.
