The Dragon-Types has been consistently one of the strongest Types in the Pokemon series. They are great to use against Grass, Fire, Water, Electric, and other Dragon-type Pokemon. The only types that are super effective against Dragon are Ice, Fairy, and the Dragon type itself.

You can find many Dragon types within the Paldea region, as roughly 35 of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's 400+ Pokemon share this type. This list will help you find the strongest draconic beasts to help your team become the very best like no one ever was.
Updated by Day Young on 02/02/2023: The Pokemon Home update is an update that allows Pokemon to be transferred from previous titles into Scarlet and Violet allows many new Dragon-Type Pokemon to be used. This includes powerful Legendaries that overpower many Pokemon that were available prior to its release.
15 Haxorus
Many of the best Dragon types in the Pokemon series are classified as Legendary or Pseudo-Legendary. Despite a common misconception that it is a Pseudo, Haxorus doesn't qualify as either. Nonetheless, it is a mighty pure Dragon-Type with a massive 147 Base Attack stat. That does, however, mean its other stats are less desirable.
Haxorus doesn't spawn in the overworld, but its pre-evolutions Axew and Fraxure can be found in the North Province's first area. Axew evolves into Fraxure at level 38, and Fraxure evolves into Haxorus at 48.
14 Goodra/Hisuian Goodra
Like Haxorus, standard Goodra is a pure Dragon-Type Pokemon that doesn't spawn naturally. It'll evolve from Sligoo if it reaches level 50 while it's raining. Sligoo can be found near Casseroya Lake. Goomy can be found much sooner, but it doesn't evolve into Sligoo until level 40.
Goodra is a little better than Haxorus since its base stats are spread out more evenly. Additionally, it is possible to transfer Hisuian Goodra from Pokemon Legends Arceus to Scarlet and Violet via Pokemon Home. Hisuian Goodra is Dragon/Steel-Type. Steel is resistant to 10 of the 18 Types, making a very powerful Type combination.
13 Dragonite
The original Pseudo-Legendary makes another reappearance. Dragonite is a mixed Dragon/Flying-Type, giving it additional advantages over Fighting and Bug-Types. It does, however, gain a weakness to Rock-Types, and Ice attacks will be drastically more threatening. Here's how to get Dragonite in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.
RELATED: Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: How To Get Dragonite, Dratini, And Dragonair
Dragonite's Base Stats are nicely spread. All of them lie between 80 and 134. Both its pre-evolutions can be found in Casseroya Lake. Dratini becomes Dragonair at level 30, and Dragonair becomes Dragonite at 55.
12 Hydreigon
Hydreigon received a new form in Pokémon Violet version called Iron Jugulis, but that form is Dark/Flying type, rather than Dragon/Dark like the standard Hydreigon. Hydreigon's Dark-type gives it an advantage over Psychic and Ghost at the cost of becoming weak to Fighting and Bug.
This advantage trade-off is slightly better than Dragonite's since Bug-types are typically used less often than most other types. Like most Pseudo-Legendaries, standard Hydreigon can't be found in the wild. You'll have to find one of its pre-evolutions on the border of the ice region, then train it up to level 64.
11 Baxcalibur
Frigibax, Arctibax, and Baxcalibur are brand-new Pseudo-Legendaries. They are all Dragon/Ice-Type, and the earlier forms can be found in the Glaseado Mountain range. Their Thermal Exchange ability makes them immune to Burn status.
It will also make their Attack increase if they get hit by a Fire move. The Ice type gives Baxcalibur an advantage over Ground and Flying, but it gives a disadvantage to Fighting, Rock, and Steel.
10 Regidrago
Regidrago can only be used in Scarlet and Violet if it's transferred from Pokemon Sword and Shield. It is a pure Dragon-Type that was initially introduced in Sword and Shield's Crown Tundra DLC expansion.
Regidrago has incredibly high HP, at the cost of both its defense stats being lackluster for Legendary standards. Still, it is a powerful Legendary that can defeat most standard Pokemon.
9 Garchomp
Gible and Gabite can be found in many cave systems throughout Paldea. They'll be able to evolve into Garchomp starting at level 48. Since Garchomp is also Ground-type, it has an advantage over Poison, Rock, Steel, and Electric types.

The only major trade-offs are it no longer is resistant to Grass and Water types, and Ice attacks will do even more damage to Garchomp than they would to a pure Dragon. Still, the advantages of this type of combination outweigh the flaws.
8 Dragapult
Dragapult's secondary Ghost type offers much better bonuses than the previously mentioned Pseudo-Legendaries. It becomes completely immune to all Normal and Fighting-type attacks, while also gaining an attack advantage over Psychic-type. The biggest downside is becoming weak to Dark.
You will likely come across one of its pre-evolutions at some point in your adventure since their spawning locations encompass nearly a third of Paldea. This makes obtaining Dragapult slightly easier than most other Dragons on this list. Dreepy evolves into Drakloak at level 50, then Dragapult at 60.
7 Salamence
Both the standard Salamence and the new Roaring Moon form are top-tier Dragon types. Standard Salamence is Dragon/Flying, while Roaring Moon is Dragon/Dark. This means each form respectively has the same advantages as Dragonite and Hydreigon.

Salamence's form diversity and wide move pool make it especially good at making use of the new Terastallization mechanic. Violet players can find Bagon and Sheldon in the far southwestern corner of Paldea, which can evolve into the traditional Salamence, while Scarlet players can find the new Paradox form in Area Zero.
6 Koraidon
The box art Legendary of Pokémon Scarlet is a Dragon/Fighting type. For most of the game, it'll be your main source of transportation. Once you complete every Gym, Team Star base, and Titan Pokémon quest, you will be able to proceed to the game's final location. There, you will be able to unlock Koraidon (or Miraidon in Violet version) in battle.
Most Pokémon don't possess a base stat total above 600, but Legendaries often do. Both Koraidon and Miraidon have a grand total of 670 Base Stat -- only a single stat is under 100. Koraidon specializes in Attack and Speed; quite fitting for a living motorcycle.
5 Miraidon
Like its Scarlet counterpart, Miraidon will be your main traveling companion and transportation throughout the story. Violet players will unlock the ability to use it in battle near the end of the game. This Dragon/Electric type has two slight edges over Koraidon. Firstly, the Electric-typing only adds one weakness, as opposed to Koraidon's Fighting adding three.
Secondly, Miraidon's ability complements itself better. Koraidon's Orichalcum Pulse ability boosts Fire attacks, while Miraidon's Hadron Engine ability improves Electric-type attacks. It's much more useful to have an ability that boosts the Type of attack that the user has.
4 Rayquaza
Rayquaza is a transfer-only Pokemon. It was considered the strongest Pokemon during the 3DS era thanks to Mega Evolution, but that mechanic hasn't returned since the series made the jump to Nintendo Switch. Base form Rayquaza is still a beast on the battlefield.

Its Attack and Special Attacks are both over 150. Unlike Regidrago, it doesn't have a big weakness when it comes to its stars. None of Rayquaza's other stats fall below 90, making even the worst stat on this Pokemon still good.
3 Eternatus
Eternatus is a Legendary Pokemon that can be caught near the end of Sword and Shield's main storyline. The only beef it received since those games is Dynamax Beam no longer having an effect that's useful, but Eternatus has far more to offer than a single move.
Eternatus has high Speed and even higher Special Attacks. This allows it to swiftly defeat weaker opponents before they even get a chance to attack. Dragon/Poison is a decent combination since it resists 7 Types and is only weak to 4.
2 Palkia
This Dragon/Water Legendary can be caught in Shining Pearl, Legends Arceus, and a few older entries. Palkia's Type combination is excellent since Water and Dragon cancel out 3 weaknesses. The only attacks Palkia is weak to are Dragon and Fairy.
Spacial Rend is Palkia's signature move. It deals 100 damage and has a higher chance of landing a critical hit than most attacks do. There is a 12.5% chance that it deals double damage.
1 Dialga
Palkia's counterpart has one of the best Type combinations. Dragon/Steel is immune to Poison, resists 9 of the 18 Types, and is only weak to 2. Ice and Fairy are normally Types that are very good to defeat Dragons, but Dialga is good at fighting those Types because of Steel.
Roar of Time is Dialga's signature move which has 150 Power. Dialga already has an incredibly high Special Attack, so this move can deal devastating damage. The only drawback is that Dialga can't move on the following turn. Dialga has access to many other powerful Dragon-Type moves too.
