Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Rollback Netcode Confirmed For This Summer

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam), the iconic fighting game of the Persona JRPG series by Atlus, is getting a brand new remaster, but many fans are wondering when the game will get its rollback netcode update.

When the Persona 4 Arena Ultimax remaster was first announced in December 2021, the first thing longtime fans wanted to know was if it’ll have rollback netcode or not. Unlike delay netcode, rollback netcode allows for much better online matches, something vital for a fighting game and its community in a world hit by a pandemic.

Not all rollback netcodes are perfect though, and a popular example is Street Fighter V, whose online versus mode has been criticized by fans despite using rollback netcode. Capcom should definitely keep this feedback in mind for Street Fighter 6.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax PS4, Steam rollback netcode is coming in Summer 2022

Atlus producer Kazuhisa Wada announced on February 28, 2022, that Persona 4 Arena Ultimax will get its rollback netcode update in summer 2022. This means the patch will launch between June and September 2022. However, only the PS4 and Steam versions of the game will get rollback, leaving Switch with delay netcode.

Persona 4 Arena is a unique 2D fighting game transcribing the systems from the original JRPG perfectly. Each character has their persona with different skills and there are even status effects. It’s a fun fighting game unlike any other and it’s great that it’s making a comeback with this remaster. The rollback netcode update will allow the community to make the game thrive for many years, and it’s bound to keep going even if a hypothetical Persona 5 Arena happens.
