For many Nigerians, Karibi Fubara may not have been a household name in Nollywood. However, he made an impact in the short period he was active in the industry. His footprint was, however, felt more internationally, particularly in the United States.
So, who was Karibi Fubara, an international superstar who was making headway for himself in Nigeria before his untimely demise?

Karibi Fubara was born on 30 August 1975. As a member of the Fubara family, he had three siblings, namely: Stella, Aya (both sisters) and Michael (brother).
He graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Ohio State University in the United States of America. He also attended the Terry Schreiber Acting Conservatory, where he polished his acting skills.
Career
Fubara is thought to have started his professional career as a model. He achieved success by appearing in commercials for well-known companies like Apple, Verizon, Hewlett-Packard, Nestle and Walt Disney.
He then switched careers as he co-founded and managed Datoala Michael, LLC, an artiste management and production firm. Idris Elba, John Legend, Stuart Matthewman (of SADE), India Arie and Jidenna were some of the artistes that Fubara had the chance to work with during his six years at the firm.

Fubara developed an interest in acting after landing a role in the Othello spinoff, Fortune of the Moor. He started his acting career as an actor in 2003 and was featured on the ABC daytime soap. One Life to Live. He was featured in several soaps, dramas and movies while in the US.
On his return to Nigeria in the 2000s, Fubara linked up with several Nollywood stars and began to carve a niche for himself in the movie industry. He rose to prominence after featuring in the TV drama series, Before 30, where he played the role of “Akin”. He subsequently landed more roles and was gradually becoming a popular face on Nigerian TV before the unthinkable occurred.

Cause of death
In 2020, Fubara took to his social media page and announced that he was diagnosed with liver cancer. The actor had, at times, provided details of his situation, including an Instagram post in 2021 stating that about 90 per cent of the tumour had been removed following surgery.
Reports claimed he had been in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, receiving treatment until his death on Wednesday 15 December 2021.
Fubara was 46 years old when he died.
Karibi Fubara burial
His burial was held at the Glorious Covenant Centre in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The burial service was attended by his family, colleagues, celebrities and well-wishers.
Family
Fubara was married to popular Nollywood stylist and costumier, Yolanda Okereke. The two exchanged marital vows in December 2018 at an event attended by their friends and family.
