Jonah Hill Facing Backlash for Selling ‘Complete Unrelenting Control’ Merch Amid Ex’s Abuse Claims

Over the past week, actor Jonah Hill has been accused by his ex-girlfriend Sarah Brady of being an emotionally abusive and controlling romantic partner. Meanwhile, Hill’s new satirical streetwear brand, Meaningful Existence, is selling merch bearing the phrase “Complete Unrelenting Control”—and it has rubbed many fans the wrong way.

Page Six first reported that the clothing brand, which launched in June, has multiple items embroidered with the phrase posted for sale on its website, including the “Control Snapback,” the “Emotional Baggage” tote, and “foot huggers” socks. Images of the merch were first shared to Instagram in early June, weeks before Brady shared her allegations with the public.

The brand—Hill’s satirical take on wellness companies—is centered on a fictional cult leader, Prophet Ezekiel Profit, played by the actor in a curly brunette wig. In addition to the “Complete Unrelenting Control” merch, the brand also sells a “Smells Like Wealth” candle, the “infinite hug” weighted blanket, and a gratitude journal. Much of the marketing for the brand features Hill as the “prophet” sharing ironic platitudes about “monetizing happiness.” Per the website, 3% of net sales are put towards mental health initiatives.

In light of Brady’s allegations of controlling behavior against the actor, many fans expressed outrage over the “Complete Unrelenting Control” merch in the comments section of the brand’s Instagram. “This is disgusting,” wrote one follower alongside a photo of the “control snapback" posted over the weekend. (The brand has since disabled the comments on the post.)

Last week Brady began sharing screenshots of texts and DMs, which she claims were sent by the 39-year-old, to her Instagram Stories. “Sharing this publicly now because keeping it to myself was causing more damage to my mental health than sharing it could ever do,” Brady wrote, per People.
