The Flash has finally hit theaters after many trials and tribulations. From stagnation during the developmental stages to multiple delays due to the global pandemic, the movie has seen its fair share of negative press. This, however, did not change with the release of the movie as it has performed quite poorly among critics as well as audiences.
There have been a lot of specific points of criticism for this movie, including bad CGI, unnecessary cameos, and questionable planning by DC films. Fans, however, are trying to figure out the sole cause for the subpar performance of the movie.
Industry Insider Speculates The Cause For The Flash’s Terrible Performance
An Industry insider went on to Twitter to voice what they think is the main cause of The Flash‘s colossally awful box-office performance. Around a week before its release, The Flash held a handful of early screenings for specific, lucky fans in select parts of the US. The source believes that these select early screenings are one of the main reasons for the movie’s failure.
“Here’s why I believe The Flash tanked and what WB did wrong and should never repeat; The early free screenings. This should have been screened once or twice and that’s it. A lot of people who would have paid got to go see it for free” They said. “Many of these fans also recorded and leaked a lot of it on TikTok, Youtube, and other social media weeks before release. The bad CGI shown in the leaks did not help. Turned people off from seeing it. Then you get to the so-so reviews and word of mouth. That’s pretty much it”
They believe that these screenings are the reason for the many leaks that gave us an early look at the poor visual effects of the movie which made many aversive to watching the movie. They added that a lot of people who would have paid to watch the movie ultimately got to watch it for free due to the early screenings which hurt the revenue of the movie.

What Do Fans Think About A New Theory About The Flash‘s Failure?
Since this thread about The Flash was posted on Twitter, people were quick to express their opinions on the subject. Many agreed with the insider, stating that they agree that it is the ‘fans’ fault that the movie flopped, even going as far as to say that the poor CGI was bearable for true fans of the franchise. Some stated that it wasn’t the bad quality of the movie that made them not want to watch it but the fact that the entire plot of the movie was leaked online.

The fact it got pushed back so many times while there was an entire plot leak online was what did it in for me. That, combined with Ezra Miller’s spree, and the weird GCI mess in the film. I really wish we got BatGirl instead of this (although I was only excited for FireFly.)

Can’t blame the screenings… that’s only a few hundred people at BEST .
Even if 1000 people saw it in screenings x $20 per ticket, that’s only losing out on $20k.
The screenings were not the problem

I’m sorry to tell you guys but it’s the “fans” fault. They should support. If the CGI’s bothering you, there’s something not right with you if you’re avoiding the movie because of it.

You cant be serious! It tanked because of Ezra Miller, the recasting of Superman, and many other problems with DC films. Aquaman was the last good film from DC. It didnt take it’s time to build the universe.

Some fans, however, did not agree with this sentiment, stating that the screening cannot be blamed for The Flash‘s failure as a very small number of people were chosen to view the movie early. Some went on to say that there are multiple reasons including Ezra Miller’s questionable actions, the recasting of Henry Cavill’s Superman as well as DC Universe’s last few movies being very poor quality.
