At the incredible age of 58, it is truly a miracle to see him do his own stunts or perform otherwise stressful scenes all by himself. A secret for that could very well be his diet, one he takes extra care of.

Robert Downey Jr is not a Vegan

While promoting Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan and Robert Downey Jr appeared in a WIRED auto-complete interview. As the two of them kept throwing questions at each other, one question that the actor addressed was regarding his diet. There are various dietary restrictions that come and go with his age and how often he has to physically transform himself for his movie roles.

“I’m a vegetarian, occasional pescatarian. If I start feeling lightheaded, I might have some shrimp, or maybe a steelhead trout.”

He revealed that Downey, although believed to be a vegan, is a dedicated vegetarian instead. He further elaborated on how he even considers himself to be an occasional pescatarian. Being at the age that he is, there are often times when he finds himself a little dizzy and unwell. To deal with that, he does not mind eating some shrimp or trout. If just for the taste or his own dietary requirements, Downey does not see himself as a vegan. Being 58, it is not easy to be in the shape that he is, to support that, he maintains a healthy and strict diet for himself.

Robert Downey Jr’s Diet on a Regular Basis

Robert Downey Jr may have a limited diet, but he focuses a lot on his carbohydrate consumption so as to maintain his shape. As per Total Shape, the actor has an average intake of 3,500 calories on a daily basis. He regularly drinks a lot of water as well as green tea and coffee to maintain fluid intake. His meal includes oatmeal for breakfast with plant milk alongside fruits.

His snacks include unsalted nuts alongside a protein shake and his lunch has a Tofu stir fry with beans and lentils, or a large portion of brown rice or pasta. The actor then eats a black bean veggie burger for dinner usually alongside steamed vegetables and sweet potato fries.
