“I did something really stupid”: Reese Witherspoon Blamed it on Alcohol after Misbehaving With a Cop, Getting Arrested for Disorderly Conduct

Popularly known for starring in Legally Blonde and Big Little Lies, Reese Witherspoon has been one of the highly paid actresses in Hollywood. She has earned a spot for herself among Hollywood elites along with an Oscar for her work in the 2005 biographical drama Walk the Line. However, along with the praise and acclaim, the past three decades of her career also include some of the most “embarrassing and dumb” moments as well. Something similar happened to the Wild actress when she got arrested in 2013 for disorderly conduct.

Reese Witherspoon Was Arrested For Disorderly Conduct

Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth, who share a son, Tennessee James Toth, announced their separation earlier this year. They revealed the news shortly before their 12th wedding anniversary. Interestingly, almost a decade before they made the announcement, the former couple found themselves in legal trouble.

In April 2013, the Oscar-winning actress was charged and arrested for disorderly conduct after she refused to stay in the car while her ex-husband was given the field sobriety test. According to The Guardian, the couple was stopped in Atlanta, after which Witherspoon told the officers, “Do you know my name?” before adding “You’re about to find out who I am.”

The report also claimed that her husband, Jim Toth, was also arrested for driving under the influence. The actress was later released to join the New York premiere of her film Mud at the time. She also released a statement apologizing for her behavior and acknowledged that she was drunk at the time.

“I clearly had one drink too many, and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said,” she shared in her statement. Witherspoon also apologized for being disrespectful toward the officers, saying that she has nothing but respect for police officers. Years later, during her appearance on the I Weigh podcast, she reflected on getting arrested and called her actions stupid.

The actress said that she was also just a human being and made some “dumb decisions” on that day. The Morning Show star was praised for acknowledging her fault in the whole situation. In her earlier statement, the actress also said,

“The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behavior.”

The actress, who was busy with the promotions of her film Mud at the time, had to make adjustments to her schedule, which also included two canceled interviews on the talk shows The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Mud is available on Max.
