Instructions for making rose beads1.) Dried rose petals from 2-4 dozen roses2.) *2-4 drops rose oil 3.) Covered pot 4.) Strainer5.) Lint-free rags6.) Plastic bags7.) *Rusty nail (optional)8.) Jewelry wire9.) GlovesPlace dried rose petals in a pot. Add water and cover. Simmer for several hours, stirring occasionally. When mixture is the consistency of oatmeal, remove from heat and let cool. Stir in 2-4 drops of rose oil and let set for about an hour. Place in strainer to drain off liquid. Be sure to save the liquid which can be used to scent the next batch.Wearing gloves, place the mixture in a lint free rag or cheese cloth and wring out as much moisture as possible.(if you’re not ready to make the beads right away, place mixture in a plastic bag. It will keep in the fridge for a few weeks.)Taking a small amount, firmly press mixture together and shape into a ball.Keep in mind the beads will shrink by about half once they’ve dried. At this point you can either string the beads on a jewelry wire immediately or you can spear the beads with 1 inch pieces of thicker floral wire. This keeps the holes open while the beads dry.*If a deeper color is desired, cook mixture with a rusty nail. Be sure to remove the nail before making the beads.*rose oil available at Botanical Resources in Clearwater.(727) 442-4955Happy rose-bead making!
