- Get her something super-luxe. If she doesn't have a go-to scent, you'll have better odds of surprising her if you pick something that's really nice to begin with. Ben Krigler from Krigler perfumes (making high-end scents for men and women since 1904!) has a few tips for narrowing it down:
"The best way to pick a fragrance is to know what type of person she is," says Krigler. "If she has a classic, conservative personality similar to Jackie Kennedy, the best fragrances for her would have a sweet woody scent. If she is a passionate, glamorous woman such as Audrey Hepburn, go into the floral tones. If she is on the light and elegant side, I would say perhaps a pure, simple perfume. If she has a strong, bold personality, then something spicy and fresh or a rich floral scent."
Not sure what the heck we're talking about? Enlist the saleswoman to help you. Go to a boutique like Bond No. 9 or a fragrance counter at a nice department store like Saks, where the staff will be highly trained and specialized. Give the saleswoman as many details as possible to help determine the perfect scent for your girl. "Where she works, her favorite place, and where she lives are all good indicators," says Krigler.
- Just pick what you love. If all else fails, "The best gift for a loved one is also the fragrance you envision your other half. She will always try to find a fragrance that will please you, so whatever you like for her, it's the right choice." Just as you'd love to wear a scent that she finds sexy, how can you go wrong by telling her, "I think this would smell so amazing on you"?
