A Nigerian man, Otto Orondaam, on Twitter, has shared an experience that positively impacted his career.
According to him, he had a flight to catch but got stuck in the elevator at the airport. It was only after 25 minutes that emergency services showed up to get them out, but he had already missed his flight.
He said he was upset, but consoled himself, saying that the situation must have happened for his own good. While on the next flight he had booked, he met a member of the board of directors he was travelling to have a meeting with, and they had a long conversation about their shared vision and work.
Orondaam claimed that meeting the woman turned out to be the best thing that happened to his career because she ended up being a pivotal part of it. He believed that missing the initial flight was God’s redirection for him to meet her.

“I packed my travel suitcase to catch a 10 a.m. flight. I wanted to be an hour early, after all, I wasn’t in Lagos, where I have to be at the airport a day ahead 😒 As I walked into the elevator, rolling my black suitcase casually. My eyes rose up, and two elderly ladies and a man were already inside. We all headed for the ground floor from the 34th. As we approach the 25th floor, the elevator cracks & stops. We all panic in fear. The ladies were screaming, but I remained calm. We try calling the reception, and they apologize. ‘Pls remain calm, a team is en route’.
“25 minutes later, we are still inside this elevator, and I’m already sweating. I don’t want to miss my flight, so I prayed. A team of armored personnel eventually opens the elevator, & the ladies are screaming, while medics are holding us. I rushed out, avoiding the first aid team, to catch my flight, but I eventually arrived 7 minutes late, missing my flight. God knows, I didn’t want to be part of the drama back at the hotel. I booked the next flight for 3 p.m. and kept asking myself, “Why is this happening to me? Then a voice reminds me as usual; Remember, Orondaam, “nothing happens to you, but for you.”

“It was 2 p.m., and my new flight was called. I settled into my seat, lost in thought. As the flight took off, I decided to take the time to review some documents for the meeting I was going to the next day. As I was engrossed in my work, the elderly black woman sitting next to me glanced at me, and asked. Are you Otto Orondaam? Yes, I am, ma’am, I replied. Oh, lovely, I am Dr. Editha, and I sit on the global board of XYZ. You’ll be meeting with us tomorrow morning. I read about you, and I was so impressed. Wow! I was in complete shock.
“We spent the rest of the 5-hour flight talking about our shared vision & their global programs. I still couldn’t imagine what was happening. What had seemed like an unfortunate loss, was God’s redirection. That lady ended up becoming a great mentor and cheerleader. An incredible angel! This event, just like many others, has made me believe that our future is predestined and that nothing happens by chance. So friends, always remember, Nothing happens to you, but for you, ❤️ #OttoOrondaam ❤️&💡,” He tweeted.

@realmadasandy: “Quiet Inspiring. Thanks for sharing. Indeed, nothing has ever happened to me, but for me. Best wishes always.”
@jamesatts: “For some, however, everything seems to happen against them. They experience your situation, and the flight they join crashes, or they get poisoned there or they later encounter robbers.”
@dele_ogunji: “In any case, even in those places where you do not have to be at their airport “one day ahead”, their elevators still get stuck?”
@Osariemen_TL: “For it is God that works in us both to will and to do of his good pleasure… congratulations sir.. Very inspiring and redirectional story.”
@ebeleenedah: “Wow! Wow! Wow! Nothing happens to you, but for you”! Thank you for sharing this.”
@BestBi3: “Predestined” One of the most complex word to unravel about life. I often notice that we consciously use this word mostly when unplanned events turn out in our favour. But never agree to accept and use the word if things turns out bad… Life is a mystery.”
@Innobrightx1: “I wouldn’t agree to predestination but I think the human brain is interconnected just like the web and they have this ability to attract things for us. Your energy for the meeting you are going for was so high and connected you to something that will have impact on it.”
@TTmichaels10: “Assigning Predestination to God is wrong. We usually use that word when sth good happens to us but turn around to question Him when negative things happen. However while God might allow bad things to happen, He’s never the cause. Time and unforeseen occurrence befalls us all.”
