In the recent JRE episode, UFC commentator Joe Rogan reveals the time he was “freaked” out by Cuban mixed martial artist Yoel Romero and his physique. Former UFC fighter Yoel Romer has an incredible physique thanks to all the bodyweight exercises he does, Masvidal mentions.
“The only guy who freaked me out was Yoel”, Rogan says. “Yoel Romero would look so big at 185…”. Jorge Masvidal reveals that he has been a fan of Yoel since his days of wrestling in the Olympics.
Jorge Masvidal looks back at the time when he and Yoel Romero would train together. He reveals that Romero doesn’t lift weights, which surprised Joe. Even though he’s got a bodybuilder physique, Jorge reveals that it actually was a lot of bodyweight exercises. “There’s just push-ups, pull-ups, squat jumps. He does a lot of body workouts and he looks like he’s a fucking pro bodybuilder,” Masvidal says.
Cuban-born Yoel Romero is a former world champion freestyle wrestler and mixed martial artist. Romero formerly competed in the middleweight division at the UFC. He last fought against Israel Adesanya at UFC 248 where Adesanya won by unanimous decision. Romero now competes in the light-heavyweight division for Bellator MMA.

Did Yoel Romero use steroids to achieve his impressive physique?
Yoel Romero has been competing in the 185lbs weight category pretty much his entire career. He has an impressive physique and many have accused him of steroid usage. In 2016, Romero was suspended by the USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) because he tested positive for Ibutamoren. Later it was found in his supplement which he talks about in The Joe Rogan Experience.
Romero sued and won against the supplement company in 2019. The Olympian was awarded $27.45 million in the lawsuit. Yoel attributes his physique to Cuban genetics. He says even regular common people of Cuba look like him. ” I’ve thought many times to invite people to come to Cuba for about 20 days. I wanted the people to see because of the genetics of Cubans. And not (just) for the athletic people, but normal (people as well).”
Yoel is 45 years old and last fought in the UFC against Israel Adesanya where he went complete five rounds but lost. He was ousted from the UFC in 2020. UFC chief Dana White said, “And Yoel has lost four of his last five (fights), he’s 44 years old. Our roster is very inflated right now.”
Post controversy, Yoel Romero has never tested positive again. He continues to fight in Bellator MMA and is scheduled to face Vadim Nemkov for the Bellator Light Heavyweight World Championship at Bellator 297.
