Greenfield - A county auditor facing several felony charges, including bribery and theft, resigned Monday.

Hancock County Auditor Linda Grass was arrested last week after a state police investigation. Police say Grass filed claims for improvements to the county courthouse that the Hancock County Commissioners never approved. The claims were submitted by James Barger, Grass' cousin, who was also arrested last week.

The county commissioners met Monday and appointed Rosemary Melvin, a 20-year veteran of the auditor's office, as interim auditor. The Hancock County Republican Party will caucus to elect a permanent replacement for Grass.
