Episode 3 - Inheritance

This episode should take you 3-4 hours to complete and contains 10 achievements for 500 Gamerscore. There are three collectables to find during the episode.

CHAPTER 1 - MAD HUNTER

Watch a cutscene for the opening chapter of the episode.

CHAPTER 2 - LIKE MOTHER, LIKE DAUGHTER

After gaining control of Alyson, leave the bedroom and go downstairs. Turn left at the bottom of the stairs and go into Eddy's bedroom. When in the bedroom, walk over to the corner of the room by the window to find a box on the shelf:

Interact with the box to see you will need to find something to open it. Leave the bedroom and turn right to go into the kitchen. Interact with the piece of paper on the counter next to the waffles. You will now need to find your ID and pay slips. Go through to the living room. On the side by the window to the left of the fireplace, you will find your purse, which you can open to find your ID inside. While you’re here, pick up a coin from next to your purse.

Go back into Eddy's bedroom and interact with the box to insert the coin. Inside you will find the first collectable of the episode; The Secret Keeper.

Go back upstairs into your bedroom. After seeing the memory on the bed, go over to the shelf below the globe to find a blue folder, which has your pay slips inside. Take them and head back downstairs. Alyson will hear her phone ringing. Open the door to the right of the stairs which lead to the basement.

Look under the notebook on the workbench to find your phone, which you will answer to talk to Dee. If you want to (optional), you can interact with the cardboard box full of wood, which is slightly further along the workbench from your phone to make Dee a gift.

Go back up the stairs. The doorbell will ring and you’ll answer it to find Michael and Tom. After talking to Tom and watching the cutscene, interact with Michael in the kitchen. Choose to tell him about the memories and send him to talk to Tyler (bond strengthened).

CHAPTER 3 - PATERNITY TEST

At the start of this chapter, you will find yourself back at the police station. Head upstairs towards Eddy’s office and interact with the mail slot outside to drop off your paperwork. Go back downstairs and go right to enter the kitchen. Interact with the cobbler next to officer Greggs to sit down and talk to him. Keep an eye on the doorway to see Dee at her desk. When she starts talking to someone, look cn_A at the doorway to say ‘I wonder what they are talking about?’, then interact with it again to eavesdrop. You will find out that the mailbox bandit is a raccoon. When Dee comes into the kitchen to talk to you, she will ask you who you think the bandit is. Reply cn_X ‘An animal’ to earn:

When you’re talking to Dee you can also choose to give her the gift you made, if you decided to make one in the previous chapter. After talking to Dee and Greggs a little longer, you will leave the police station.

When Alyson looks at her phone, hold cn_RT intermittently to match the size of the circle. Do this five times to calm Alyson down and see a memory. Eddy will come and talk to you. When he tells you to tell the ghosts to move on, select cn_Y ‘I killed Mary-Ann’ and finish the conversation to draw the chapter to a close.

CHAPTER 4 - ADRIFT

Go down the right side of the garage to the end, and enter the doorway on your left. Go inside the building and talk to Sam. After a short while, interact with the motor next to Sam and he will tell you he is trying to fix it. Go to the back of the room, where there is a cabinet next to the sink:

After conversing with Sam for a short while, you will be able to pick up the red spray can inside the cabinet. Give it to Sam to earn:

After talking to him, you’ll be in another room with Sam. Before sitting down with him, go to the desk and open the drawer to find the second collectable; The Old Bear:

Sit down with Sam and look at the items in the box. He will then show you the photos. Flick through them and watch the cutscene to end the chapter and earn:

CHAPTER 5 - CHOSEN FAMILY

Talk to Michael and you will go fishing with him. For the next achievement, you will need to catch all the fish. When you get a bite, interact with the rod. Press cn_A to reel in the fish and when prompted, hold cn_LT to get the marker in the blue area in the centre of the line, then let go of cn_LT to stop the marker going too far over the line. You’ll then have to hold cn_RT to start to complete the circle. You’ll have to repeat this until the circle is complete and you have caught the fish.

You can interact with things around you while you are waiting for another bite. After catching two of the three fish, interact with Michael to talk to him. During the conversation, select ‘I pushed her too hard’ and ‘I didn’t really think about that’ (bond strengthened). Catch the last fish to earn:

Talk to Michael to end the chapter.

CHAPTER 6 - PRINCESS AND TIARA

After sitting down and talking to Alyson, look at the photo and follow her to the barn. When inside the barn, after a short while you can look at the photo she is holding. You will see the handle to open the attic hatch, which is next to the door. Go to the door of the barn and interact with a wooden panel to the right:

‘Use’ the handle to pull it. Go into the shed area to find the ladder. Interact with it for a cutscene, after which you will be in the attic. You will now have to finish three of the puzzles around the attic in order to figure out the code for the box at the end of the room. Although you can unlock the box without figuring out the code, learning the code with Alyson will strengthen your bond and will also earn you another achievement.

First, examine the painting next to Alyson. You will have to choose which areas of the painting are different from the picture in the Book of Goblins. The story which relates to the painting is the one furthest right on the left-hand side page:

Select the following areas of the painting (shown in the screenshot below): the princess in the trees, the hand of the mad hunter, the castle, the mushroom, and the title.

Puzzle 1

This will open a hatch to the right of the painting. Examine the items inside the hatch to find the final collectable; The Gold Lady. There will be several other optional items in there you can look at.

Next, Alyson will go and stand by another puzzle (the blue one with lots of small pictures). For this one, you will have to select the things which have happened in Mary-Ann’s life. The clues to the puzzle are found in the previous hatch you opened. Choose the pictures shown in the screenshot below (dove, ballet, flower, and artist):

You can then look at the items in the open hatch. Read the letter inside. For the final puzzle you will need to solve (the remaining puzzles are optional), follow Alyson to the puzzle with the princess at a table in the middle. For this puzzle, you have to choose the things that represent Mary-Ann’s life in the order they occurred. Select the events in the following order (castle, flowers, clock, house, and princess’ party):

You will then earn:

You can now go to the locked box at the end of the room and unlock it. First, you can get the achievement related to collecting all of the Book of Goblins figures. Either side of the locked box there will be wooden pedestals. Interact with each one to put a collectable on it. Once you’ve stuck them all on the pedestals you’ll earn:

Interact with the box and spell out ‘LEO’ as shown below (bond strengthened):

Look at the items inside the box. After the cutscene, leave the attic via the hatch. Run down to the dock and remember the memory with Alyson to end the chapter.

CHAPTER 7 - VENI, VIDI, VECCHI

Talk to Tom and ask him about the barn cn_Y and Mary-Ann cn_X. Then, use your voice with cn_RT to ask Tyler what you should do now cn_Y. Then select cn_A you have to make this right. Continue the conversation with Tom until her leaves.

When you find yourself back down on the dock, make sure to select Tom’s version with cn_A. This will allow you to get Tyler’s ending in the next chapter. After a cutscene, you’ll be back in the house and the chapter will draw to a close.

CHAPTER 8 - EPILOGUE: LOCK UP AND GO

In this ending, you’ll find yourself as Tyler packing up in the old house. After talking to Alyson on the phone for a bit (or through telepathy), pick up the laptop from next to the sofa in the living room. Pick up the photos on the kitchen counter and interact with the front door to ‘leave the house for good’, which will finish the episode and award you with:

You will also earn the following achievement during the credits, if you have finished the game with the twin's bond strengthened (which you should have done if you followed the choices within this episode):

Replaying the Episode

If you have followed this walkthrough and made mixed choices in the earlier episodes to strengthen/ weaken the twin’s bond, you will only have to replay episode 3 to get the final two achievements. As you can skip the majority of cutscenes and dialogue, this should only take you about an hour. Before restarting episode 3, look back over the choices you have made so far in episodes 1 and 2 (via the main menu) to make sure they are mixed, with some to strengthen and some to weaken the bond. If you find that you have mainly picked strengthen or weaken choices, you will have to restart from earlier in the game than episode 3, as there will not be enough choices in episode 3 to sway the final decision on the bond. As the strengthen/weaken choices are bolded within the walkthrough, it should be easy to look back over it and see where you need to start from.

To replay the episode, go into the chapters > replay mode option from the main menu. Select Episode 3 Chapter 2 ‘like mother like daughter’ and ‘restart progress from this scene’. Now replay the episode, skipping all the optional dialogue and cutscenes where possible. Select the following options to weaken the twin’s bond and receive Alyson’s ending for the achievement:

  • Chapter 2 – When you are talking to Michael at your house, tell him about the memories and then select ‘It won’t do any good’.
  • Chapter 3 – When you are talking to Eddy at the station, do not tell him the truth about Mary-Ann’s death. Instead, select ‘I can’t move on’.
  • Chapter 5 – When fishing with Michael and talking to him, say ‘we’re too different’ and ‘I was the kid who killed his mum’.
  • Chapter 6 – When you are in the loft with Alyson, instead of trying to work out any of the puzzles, head straight to the box with the three-letter code on it and examine it. Instead of solving the puzzle, leave the loft through the hatch and pick up the crowbar next to the burned area on the barn floor. Then, head back into the loft, examine the box, and use the crowbar to open it.
  • Chapter 7 – When down at the dock after talking to Tom, choose to stick to your memory ‘Mary-Ann threatened Tyler’.

For the epilogue, you should now be Alyson and still be in the house. You may talk to Tyler on the phone or through telepathy, however this is not a requirement to progress through this chapter. When you're ready, go into Mary-Ann’s old room and sit down at the desk to finish the story. During the final cutscene you should earn:

And as the credits roll you will earn the final achievement:

Congratulations! You will now have finished the game and earnt 1500G.
