Since this is a visual novel, I will try not to spoil the story too much. I will be using spoiler tags throughout the walkthrough, when needed.
Whenever I have a author's note, I will do so like this:
Author's note: Hina is the best!
When there's a very important part, like the missable images or something it will look like this: Here is the first missable image.
And of course when there's a spoiler, it will be this:
When you start the game, you will choose between Gentle (easy), Kind (normal), and Mean (hard) difficulties for Logic and Action. I recommend to just pick Kind (or Gentle) difficulty for both. The only difference really is that you get more White Noise in debates and more Truth Bullet options to confuse you on Mean. The game is pretty straight forward and even if you get a game over, you can just reload the trail and try again with no real punishment. Also there are no difficulty related achievements. For this playthrough, I will be on Kind (normal) difficulty.
You won't have to worry about missing any evidence before trails either, since the game won't go to the trail until you get all the evidence. In fact the game locks you in a location (like the Library) until you get all the evidence at the location.
The game is broken down into chapters and in the chapters there are stages, for example:
Chapter #
- School life - This is where you have a lot of the main story
- Free time - During this time you can hang out with the other students. (This is the only time you can hang out with them to fill report cards out.)
- Investigation - Once a body has been discovered, then it's time to get evidence for the trail.
- Class Trail - Students are gathered to discuss evidence and figure out who the 'blackened' (killer) is.
- Closing Argument - In the trials, there's a point where you piece everything together about the crime into a Manga comic.
- Post Trail - Punishment and more story to lead to next chapter.
When it comes to filling out the student's report cards (building relationships), there are two ways to go about it.
- You can play through the main story and not worry about them. This is because you won't be able to fill everyone's report card out in the main story playthrough. This isn't a problem though, since the report card progress carries over into School Mode, and in School Mode it's mostly just hanging out with the students. In the School Mode you'll get one daily and two every seven days. More on that later, when we get to the School Mode playthrough of this guide.
- You can just visit who you want and just enjoy the story and benefits. As you progress the report cards, you earn Skill Points (SP) and even skills (abilities) to help you in Class Trails. I personally recommend this and will give a breakdown of the presents the students like/love and rewards on the Student Report Cards page of this guide. Doing this, you will get to know the students better and get the benefits to use in the trails (which some of them will come in handy).
For the Free Time events I will tell how many encounters there are, and if someone isn't available, and I'll tell who I spent time with and what I earned from them. That way, if you'd like to follow my steps you can, or just do whatever you like during that time.
The in-game currency, Monocoins, can be found anywhere that can be 'observed' and from Class Trials. Just check everything once in a location and even if it's something you have checked out before in another location, like the cameras. Even if there are two metal covered windows check both. The coins don't respawn unless you replay a chapter, so don't worry about rechecking spots you already looked at. I believe some of the coin locations are random and some are set. In my first playthrough, I had a coin in the starting classroom and in my second run, there was none. Don't stress on these too much, since we will earn more in the School Mode and from replaying School Trials later. Feel free to get what you can!
I won't list everything to check in a location, just what's important for the story/progress. It's up to you when you enter a location to check the extra things out, if you want, for possible Monocoins. And to check out some extra locations, like classrooms, that we don't have to go to for the story.
