GEICO adding 1,500 jobs to Carmel office

The insurance company will add more than 100,000 square feet of space to its Carmel office and create nearly 1,500 jobs by the end of 2022.

CARMEL, Ind. (WTHR) - GEICO plans to invest more than $16 million in its Carmel plant.

The insurance company announced Tuesday it will add more than 100,000 square feet of space to its office there and create nearly 1,500 jobs by the end of 2022. That more than doubles GEICO's current Indiana-based workforce.

"The support of this thriving community and our growing customer base in Indiana have made this expansion possible," Lona J. Montgomery, general manager of the GEICO Indianapolis office, said in a press release.

The new jobs will come in IT, customer service and claims handling. The company plans to begin recruiting immediately.

You can find out more info about the positions on GEICO's website.

GEICO currently employs about 1,200 people in the state. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. plans to offer the company up to $16 million in conditional tax credits and up to $500,000 in training grants. The incentives are performance-based, meaning the company will not be eligible to claim them until Hoosiers are hired.
