Former Phillie Jeremy Giambi dies at 47 – NBC Sports Philadelphia

Jeremy Giambi, who spent a little over four months with the Phillies in 2002, died Wednesday at age 47.

Giambi was found dead at his parents' home in Southern California at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday. The family has requested privacy and sensitivity.

Giambi played six seasons in the major leagues, beginning his career with the Kansas City Royals before joining older brother Jason in Oakland in 2000. In May 2002, the A's traded him to the Phillies for veteran pinch-hitter John Mabry.

Giambi homered in each of his first two plate appearances as a Phillie, the first Phillie to achieve that feat and the only until Daniel Nava did so in the third game of the 2017 season.

We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of a member of our Green and Gold family, Jeremy Giambi. We offer our condolences to Jeanne, Jason, and his family and friends.
