SANFORD, Florida (AP) -- A maintenance man has been sentenced to life in prison for fatally shooting his former girlfriend in front of her family at a Florida church. Willie Crowder of Altamonte Springs was convicted of second-degree murder for shooting Ann Horne-Savage in the fellowship hall of Peaceful Zion Baptist Church two years ago. The Orlando Sentinel reports that at his sentencing, the 61-year-old Crowder asked the victim's family to forgive him. He also said he forgave them, though for what was not clear. Horne-Savage's daughter-in-law cried when Crowder talked about forgiveness, and yelled "I hate you" before he was led away in chains.
