Qatar Cricket Association is an affiliate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC). QCA became an associate member in 2017.

The Qatar National Team made its international debut in 1979. It was at an invitational tournament that had countries like Bahrain, Kuwait, and Sharjah.

The team’s first ACC event was the 2002 ACC Trophy which was held in Singapore. The team gained the rank fourth. However, after a few years, it was relegated to the second-division ACC events.

Qatar made its only World Cricket League (WCL) appearance in South Africa at the 2017 ICC World Cricket League Division Five trophy. It attained the place third. This was enough for the team to play in the new 2019–21 ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League.

History

International competition

Qatar made its international debut in 2002 at the ACC Trophy. They failed to progress after the first round of the tournament. In the next tournament in 2004, they received fourth place. This helped them to qualify for the final pre-qualifying tournament for the 2005 ICC Trophy. The match was hosted in Malaysia in early 2005. They bagged the fourth position in that tournament. They were forced to drop off the road to qualification to the 2007 World Cup. They competed one more time at the ACC Trophy in 2006. This time they managed to finish in eighth place. They got the opportunity to play in the new Champions division of that tournament in 2008.
