The 70-year-old American Michael Kish has left the internet stunned as he completed the 100-meter dash in less than 14 seconds. According to a news source, Kish finished the race with an impressive 13.47 seconds at the Penn Relays on Thursday. Sydney McLaughlin set a record at the same event.
Mr Kish truly proved that age is just a number. He set a very strong time in his competitive age group and took home the title in the 100-meters in the 70-year-old category. The second place was secured by Don Warren form Philadelphia in 14.35 seconds and third by Joachim Acolatse in 15.86 seconds.
His impressive feat has gone viral on social media
The Shore AC athlete has gone viral for his impressive performance. At the beginning of the race himself, he separated himself from the other athletes and Kish took an early lead. In the very first clip, you can see the 70-year-old grandfather bolting past his other competitors rocking black sunglasses.
Since the video has been shared, it has garnered over 2 million views on social media. Internet users have described Mr Kish as an inspiration. Many of the users have jokingly said things such as “I don’t even drive that fast”. Another user said, “These guys at 70 are faster than I ever was”. “I’m embarrassed that a 70-year-old guy could beat me in a race,” a third user wrote.
A media outlet reported that the all-time 100-meter record for men over the age of 70 is held by America’s Bobby Whilden, who ran it in 12.77 seconds at the 2005 Senior Olympics. In other news at the Penn Relays, New Jersey’s Sydney McLaughlin set a record in the 100m hurdles and South Brunswick’s Damarion Potts was the top finisher in the high jump event.
