Halloween isn't until next Wednesday, but I have a feeling a lot of people are heading to parties this weekend, right?
If you and the boyf have a party to go to, but you've been too busy to deal with costumes, you've got two choices: You can run to a party store, wait in a 40 minute line, and spend way too much money on costumes where he looks boring and you look naked OR you can try to piece something together from things you already own. For most of us, it's a little cold and a lot embarrassing to go out in public in expensive underwear, so I think you know the better choice here.
Here are a few quick ideas that might help you two out. Most of these costumes you should be able to put together with things from your own wardrobe or a quick trip to the store for basic, inexpensive supplies.
1. Liz Lemon and Jack Donaghy The best not-a-couple couple ever.
He'll need: A suit and a little gel to give himself a perfectly coiffed head of hair. You'll need: Jeans, a cardigan or blazer, and glasses.
Bonus accessories: NBC ID cards, a glass of Scotch for him, a bag of Sabor de Soledad for you (just tape your own handmade label to a regular bag of cheese curls).
2. Ghosts You're not going to compete with the super creative costumes if you're on a time crunch, so why not go completely old school?
You'll both need: An old bed sheet with eye holes cut in it.
Why simple rules: There's absolutely no need for makeup or clean hair, and you can eat all the mini candy bars without worrying any tight costume discomfort.
3. Katniss and Peeta May the odds of getting the good candy be ever in your favor.
You'll both need: Matching athletic jackets and cargo pants.
Accessories for him: A loaf of bread and a limp.
Accessores for you: A braid, obvi (and here's how to get the perfect one), a bird pin, and if possible, some arrows fashioned out of twigs from your backyard.
4. Salt and Pepper You're never going to be as adorable as these little darlings, but take a cue from their simple black and white outfits, and be a well-seasoned pair.
You'll need: An all white outfit with a letter "P" cut out of black paper or felt.
__He'll need:__An all white outfit with a letter "S" cut out of white paper or felt. (Either of you could be salt or pepper, but I'm taking a guess that you might be more likely to have white pants than him.)
Top it off: If you've got a little time to get crafty, I suggest fashioning toppers out of disposable cake pans: poke a few holes in the top to look like a shaker, and secure to a headband or strap to keep it on top of your head.
