CARMEL, Ind. (WTHR) — The Carmel Clay School Board has approved a referendum for the November ballot to cover school safety measures.
The tax levy would mean about $65 per year for a home that with an assessed value of $250,000. For a $500,000 home it would be $146 more per year.
The referendum would generate about $5 million each year for school safety. The referendum would last eight years.
This comes after state lawmakers made changes allowing a school district to propose a safety referendum that would be above the state's property tax cap.
November will be the first chance for Indiana school districts to try to pass a safety referendum.
