Former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu, has emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 elections.
Tinubu was declared the official winner of the APC presidential primary election which was held at the Eagle Square in Abuja after scoring 1,271 votes to defeat his closest rivals, ex-minister Rotimi Amaechi and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. While Amaechi polled 316 votes, Osinbajo scored 235 votes.
Twenty-three aspirants were jostling for the ticket. All the aspirants but one took turns to tell the delegates what they would offer if given the chance to fly the party’s flag.

However, eight of them stepped down for Tinubu at the start of the primary while one stepped down for Osinbajo.
Those who stepped down for Tinubu include; Governor Kayode Fayemi Godswill Akpabio, Ibikunle Amosun, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, Rt. Hon. Demeji Bankole, Barr. Uju Kennedy Ohanenye Senator Ajayi Borrofice and Ken Nnamani.
On the other hand, Felix Nicholas, the United States of America-based aspirant also stepped down and asked his supporters to vote for Osinbajo.
A total of 2,322 ad-hoc delegates drawn from the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) participated in the primary.
Following his victory, Tinubu will go head to head with Atiku Abubakar of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) among others in the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria.
