Boy Spyce career

Boy Spyce’s career in music embodies the phrase ‘divinely orchestrated’. Having discovered his singing talent at a young age, he was further encouraged by his friends while in boarding school. So, he started posting freestyles on the internet. Spyce dropped his freestyles probably with no intention of expecting anything in return, but for posterity’s sake.

The Afrobeat singer began creating covers of popular songs and sharing them on social media. His most successful one was a rendition of Wizkid’s Essence, which caught the eye of Don Jazzy, the Chief Executive Officer of Mavin Records.

Consequently, he was granted a spot in the label’s music academy on April 14, 2022. Just like that, he moved from a singer hoping to “blow” (become famous) to a member of the Mavins group.

Spyce revealed during an interview that the Mavins boss himself, Don Jazzy, was the one that reached out to him on December 25, 2019, on Instagram. He initially believed it was from a parody account until he checked and saw it was the verified Don Jazzy account.

He said: “It happened on the 25th of December 2019. On Christmas day. I got a text from Jazzy on Christmas morning. So, I posted a freestyle some days before the call and Kizz Daniel reposted it on his story, telling people to check me out. Now, I don’t know if that’s where Don Jazzy noticed me, because I know I didn’t tag him to the video. I was not really expecting anything.

I just woke up on Christmas morning and got his message. The following year, we linked up. I still remember the day. It was the 7th of January 2020. That was the day I first met him and almost immediately, we began work. He told me to join the academy and since then, we started recording.”
