“Because he called me, that’s huge for me.”: AJ Styles thanks recently retired star “The Game” for bringing him to WWE

Wrestling Inc’s Managing Editor Nick Hausman spoke with WWE Superstar AJ Styles on Triple H’s return to work at WWE’s WrestleMania 38 media row. For the first time since having a cardiac crisis and announcing his retirement from in-ring action, The Game was present during WrestleMania weekend. AJ Styles took a moment to think about it.

Styles made his WWE debut during the 2016 Royal Rumble, which was reportedly arranged thanks to Triple H, since the D-Generation X star was the one who initiated the talks. “Yeah, Triple H was here, and I am glad to see him, man,” AJ Styles stated. “You’ve got to think, when I think about his retirement I am here because of him. Because he called me, that’s huge for me.”

Styles made his WWE debut during the 2016 Royal Rumble, which was reportedly made possible by Triple H. Triple H reportedly began the dialogue by informing Vince McMahon, “Styles deserves a championship opportunity.” Since then, Styles has been ripping through the competition. Styles’ WWE debut at the Royal Rumble appears to have been prompted by Triple H’s proposal, since the commentator was the one who initiated the discussion.

Backstage during WrestleMania weekend, Triple H had an emotional conversation with WWE superstars. The wrestlers were ecstatic to see him again, but they also accepted Rhea Ripley’s statement that it was during this meeting that they discovered they could earn more money outside of their contract. Before Hunter retired, he shared the ring with AJ Styles in a non-televised match.

Both Triple H and AJ Styles were featured in WrestleMania 38 night two. Hunter made an unexpected entrance to the performance, declaring his retirement by leaving his boots in the ring. Meanwhile, AJ would face Edge, but would lose to the Rated-R Superstar due to a distraction by Damian Priest.

Although AJ Styles and Triple H have never competed in a televised fight, they did share the ring during a visit of Japan in 2019. AJ, along with other Club members Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows, teamed up with the Hall Of Famer. They managed to overcome Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley, Drew McIntyre, and Samoa Joe’s squad. After that, Triple H only competed in the ring once more before retiring.
