Are You Nervous About the Best Man's Speech?

We've dished on bridesmaid's toasts before, but today I thought we could switch it up and talk about the guys. I was a guest at a wedding a few years back and all anyone could talk about during the ceremony and cocktail hour was how terribly inappropriate the best man's toast would be. When he clanked a fork against his champagne flute and stood up, you could feel the tension in the air.

But then, he gave an incredibly sweet and touching speech that left everyone a little misty eyed, including the bridesmaids who looked ready to pounce if things got too out of control.

When Chris asked his best friend, Chris S. (most popular name in the late 70s/early 80s or what?!) to be his best man, the only thing we both worried about was how incredibly shy Chris S. is. While I think he had some reservations about standing in front of a crowd of over 100, with all eyes on him, he killed it. His speech made us all laugh, cry and laugh again. He had adorably worked on it up until the day of our wedding and his wife was kind of enough to email me a copy:

A wedding guest caught the action on camera. Official pictures from our photographer coming soon!

*Hello everyone, for those of you who don't know me, my name is Chris…and they tell me I'm the "best man". Actually though, I was never formally asked to be the best man. I heard it through the grapevine a couple months ago when my wife, Dolores, read it on one of Rosemary's blog posts...or Facebook or something. *Actually, when Chris asked me, all he said was, "Would you be in the wedding?" He then went on to say, and I quote, "All you have to do is stand there…you don't have to give a speech or anything". Hopefully your marriage benefits from better and more honest communication than our friendship does.
