The 2023 edition of Big Brother will feature both Nigerian and South African nationals as housemates.
This was disclosed by MultiChoice Nigeria, the organisers of the reality TV show, at the 2022 MultiChoice Media Showcase in Lagos on Thursday.
According to John Ugbe, the Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, the merger of both Nigerian and South African nationals is due to the clamour by subscribers to have a pan-African show related to its main franchise, Big Brother Africa.
He explained that both countries were chosen due to their subscribers’ interest in the show’s franchises run by the company: Big Brother Mzansi and Big Brother Naija.
Ugbe stated that the show will be held at MultiChoice Nigeria’s state-of-the-art studio in Lagos.
Big Brother is Africa’s most popular reality television show, with Big Brother Africa and Big Brother Naija being the most viewed franchises. It is a show in which primarily young persons – known as housemates – are kept in a secluded environment for a stipulated number of days, living together with people from different backgrounds in what is deemed a social experiment.
These housemates participate in several activities such as the weekly wager task, Friday night games, sponsored tasks and the Head of House challenge which tests their physical and mental character and their intellectual capability, in a bid to win the ultimate grand prize of the show, which varies every season.
The grand prize for this year’s (2022) show is N100 million, which is split into two: N50 million cash and N50 million worth of prizes.
