In her Westfield kitchen, Angie Wall's island is covered in kids toys. A colorful sleeveless girls' dress is draped over a chair.
While the items appear brand new, they are things her children have outgrown.
And now the mother of two is hoping to cash in.
Wall says she's made $3-4,000 over the past five years at the Whale of a Sale consignment event.
She's one of about 500 consignors expected at this year's event which takes place March 17-20 at Five Seasons Family Sports Club on 96th Street in Indianapolis.
Billed as "Indy's Premier Upscale Kids Consignment Event," Whale of a Sale is one of two kids consignment sales this month.
The bi-annual event features name brands like Baby Gap, Gymboree, Ralph Lauren, Pottery Barn Kids and more.
Shoppers at the event will find toys, clothes, bikes, bedding and some maternity wear.
Wall says it's hugely popular because organizers screen each item carefully before it's put on the floor to sell.
She says she took part on a friend's recommendation and found she made much more money than she anticipated.
"I was quite amazed," Wall said. "I was used to garage sales (where I would) make $100 and when I got my first check I was like, 'Wow.'"
While Wall sorts and prices her items, she gets help from the organization's website.
Consignors can register through March 11 at whale-sale.com.
Those who'd rather buy than sell can get started today at the Indy Kids Sale at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds.
Promoted as one of Hamilton County's largest kids' sales, there are more than 300 consignors at this event, selling more than 50,000 items, such as kids and baby clothing, baby and sports equipment, toys and accessories.
Indy Kids also partners with Safe Families, Noblesville Boys and Girls' Clubs and Sheridan Elementary School. Shoppers can purchase items needed for the organization featured on a given day.
"Not only is our sale one of the largest and most experienced sales in Indianapolis and surrounding areas, we are also the only sale to partner with and give back to local organizations in the community," said spokesperson Libby Springer.
The Indy Kids Sale event runs Thursday through March 12.
